Style Inspiration: Powder
I recently watched the movie Powder for the first time. Yes, the 1995 movie about an albino with magic powers that grew up in a basement. Jeff Goldblum is also in this movie. I loved this movie. Jeff Goldblum, social outcasts and a tragic ending: what's not to like? My favorite part of this movie was the title character's style. I really loved Powder's outfits. There was something easy and well heeled about they way he was styled. Fortunately Sean Patrick Flanery, Powder himself, has shared some screen shots from the movie on his Myspace.
You can see the movement of one of his outfits in my favorite scene:
It's the colors and the drape and the flow. The looseness that doesn't hide the body shape, the deep orange, the layers. Despite the moving storyline, half of the movie feels like a clothing ad. Powder is costumed so well. I can't really find full length pics, but he wears plenty of super ugly pants, similar to the pleated ones that American Apparel has been selling for a while.
I thought these pants were profoundly and unappealingly ugly when I first saw them. I might have changed my mind. Now, they might be appealingly ugly. I'm thinking of saving up for a pair.
I'm not really the kind of girl that wears pants. I think I have one pair of interesting pants (high-waisted jeans from Guess that I bought with my first paycheck) and a couple of comfortable (read not particularly flattering) pairs for when I run out of tights and haven't shaved my legs. However, Powder makes me want to wear pants. Pants with button up shirts over tight fitting undershirts.

His outfits also remind me of Katharine Hepburn, but more 90s.

Brigitte Bardot is resplendent.
Chantal Goya is little cutesie and young for me, but still . . .
There's something enchanting about this picture of Sylvie Vartan.

Morrissey Fan Art I've Come Across
While doing some, ahem, research for PiquedMag's Morrissey with Cats Blingee contest, I came across some charming Morrissey fan art that needs to be more widely shared.
I think my next embroidery project is going to be a Moz portrait.
